Covid vaccines were never tested for their ability to stop the virus spreading, a senior Pfizer executive has admitted.
Although people were urged to get vaccinated to block the spread of the virus, and so protect the most vulnerable, nobody actually knew whether the vaccines had that capability.
Pfizer’s Janine Small, president of international developed markets, told a European Union review meeting into the Covid response that drug companies didn’t know whether their vaccines would stop viral transmission. “Regarding the question around did we know about stopping immunization before it (the vaccine) entered the market…no.”
She explained that the pressure was intense to get a vaccine into the market, and the usual tests were shelved. “We have to really move at the speed of science to understand what is taking place in the market,” she said.
Ms Small had responded to questions from Dutch MEP Robert Roos, who afterwards described the vaccine roll-out as criminal. “If you don’t get vaccinated, you’re antisocial. This is what the Dutch prime minister and health minister told us. You don’t get vaccinated just for yourself, but also for others. You do it for all of society. Today, this turned out to be complete nonsense.”
Ms Small’s response also threw into question the legal basis for a Covid passport, he added.
