A healthy diet and a healthy brain

You are what you eat—and that’s especially true about our mental health.

People who eat a healthy diet that’s low in processed foods have better brain health, cognitive function and mental wellbeing, a major new research study has found.

They even have more ‘grey matter’ which is thought to be a representation of intelligence.

Researchers from the University of Warwick studied the diets and mental health of nearly 182,000 participants in the UK Biobank project.

Eating a healthy diet is a lifetime project, and it should begin in the home and in schools, said lead researcher Jianfeng Feng.  “Developing a healthy balanced diet from an early age is crucial for healthy mental growth,” he said.
