Diabetes is twice as deadly for women

Female diabetics need to know about the risk, and do more intense physical exercise and adopt a healthier diet, say researchers.
Researchers from the University of Colorado school of medicine have also found that female diabetics have heart attacks at a younger age, and are more likely to die after a first attack.

They aren`t sure why diabetes affects the sexes differently, but assume it is because of hormones, and it ties in with other research that has shown that women have a higher risk factor for heart disease and stroke.
It`s reckoned that 9 per cent of the American population has diabetes, which occurs when the pancreas cannot produce enough insulin to break down sugars from food to control blood sugar levels.
