Why do so many of us suffer from chronic health problems? One reason could be modern living and exposure to constant stress that we haven’t evolved to deal with.
We’ve evolved to constantly move, be in nature and face short bouts of stress—but our lives are the very reverse of that optimum state, say researchers at the University of Zurich.
In just a few hundred years, we’ve moved from agrarian cultures to industrialization with its noise, air and light pollution, microplastics, pesticides, processed food and continuous sensory input from computers and TVs.
We haven’t evolved quickly enough to cope with these profound changes, and the epidemic of chronic health problems has been the result, the researchers say.
