The one supplement that combats ageing

Reading time: 1 minute

Is there just one supplement that can counter the effects of ageing?   Possibly, and it could be NAD.

NAD (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) supplements are designed to boost cellular energy, support healthy aging, and repair DNA by increasing NAD+ levels, which naturally decline with age.  NAD+ is a molecule that plays a crucial role in keeping our cells energized, repairing DNA, and maintaining overall health.

But it’s not only old age.  Levels also decline from a poor diet and excessive drinking. Their decline has been linked to memory problems, reduced muscle strength, and a higher risk of age-related diseases, such as Alzheimer’s.

Natural ways to boost NAD+ levels include a healthy diet, fasting and exercise, and supplements could also do the job.  Right now, the most effective supplements are precursors like NMN (nicotinamide mononucleotide) and NR (nicotinamide riboside).

Scientists as the University of Oslo have been researching the decline of NAD+ and ways to combat it for years.   They have reviewed laboratory research and clinical studies that have explored ways to raise NAD+ levels with NR and NMN supplements. Early findings are promising, with some trials reporting improvements in memory, physical movement, and metabolic health, they say, but it’s still unclear about the right dosage and any long term effects.

Major studies are under way around the world to test the effectiveness of NR and NMN, the researchers say.
