Switzerland has stopped its Covid-19 vaccination programme.
People who still want to be vaccinated will have to pay for the shot, says the country’s Federal Office of Public Health. Booster shots or first-time vaccinations for the unvaccinated are being withdrawn.
Around 98 percent of the Swiss population now has natural immunity against the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes Covid-19, the agency says. It anticipates that the virus will not be prevalent this year, and “it can be assumed that people without risk factors have a very low risk of becoming serious ill with Covid-19”.
Only people at high risk of a serious infection should be vaccinated but, even then, only if there is a sudden upsurge in cases.
