Sleeping alone increases your risk of insomnia

Reading time: 1 minute

A good night’s sleep is essential for our health, as everyone knows—and one of the best ways to achieve it is to share your bed with a partner.

People who sleep with a partner suffer less insomnia, and are less likely to have depression, anxiety and stress, say researchers from the University of Arizona.

But people who sleep on their own or with children don’t fare so well.  They’re likely to suffer greater stress and anxiety and they record lower scores on life and relationship satisfaction measures.

The researchers assessed the impact of sleep on the 1,007 participants in the Shades (Sleep and Health Activity, Diet, Environment and Socialization) study.
