You can reduce your chances of developing cancer by making sure your bedroom is completely dark at night – light pollution when you are trying to sleep has been linked to prostate and breast cancer. Researchers at the University of Haifa in Israel say that light pollution at night interferes with the production of melatonin, a hormone that helps the body regulate the day/night cycle. Its suppression has been associated with cancer. Melatonin interference could also determine the size and development of cancerous tumours, say researchers after testing the hypothesis on a group of laboratory mice.
