Magic mushrooms are the way to treat depression

Reading time: 1 minute

Magic mushrooms really can treat depression, as yet another medical study has confirmed.

Psilocybin—the active ingredient in more than 200 varieties of fungi—can have a mind-altering effect after just one session and could be more effective than antidepressant drugs.

Older people and those with a life-threatening health condition could especially benefit from psilocybin, say researchers from Oxford University.  They looked at the effects of magic mushrooms on a group of 436 people with depression, and compared their effectiveness against other conventional therapies, such as SSRI antidepressants.

Using a standard measurement to assess the severity of depressive symptoms, the researchers found that patients who had one magic mushroom session reported an improvement of around 64 percent.

The results mirror those of several other major studies that had also confirmed the effectiveness of magic mushrooms.
