LED therapy killing cancer in 30 minutes

A new LED light therapy is killing cancer in 30 minutes.

The therapy has destroyed up to 92 percent of skin cancer cells and 50 percent of colorectal cancer cells in one 30-minute session while leaving healthy cells surrounding the cancer.

It also uses ultra-thin pieces of tin known as SnOX nanoflakes, say researchers from the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Porto in Portugal, who have collaborated to develop the technology.

Although LED technology has been used before as a cancer therapy, the researchers say they are developing a version that is portable and can even be used by patients in their homes.  The new therapy harnesses near-infrared photothermal technology, which uses light to heat and destroy cancer cells without the need for surgery or toxic drugs.
