Gingko biloba could combat the COVID-19 virus

Researchers at Rush University Medical Centre have used ginkgolic acid, derived from the leaves and fruits of Ginkgo biloba postulate that it could be effective against the coronavirus, COVID-19. They tested the acid in laboratory trials and discovered it either blocks or slows the development of several other viruses.

Gingko biloba is a herbal medicine that has been used in the West since the 16th century, although mainly for improving memory and reducing anxiety.

Doctors warn that it interacts with a range of prescription drugs, including aspirin and the SSRI antidepressants.
