Women who suffer badly from PMT (pre-menstrual tension) could find their symptoms improve if they sip small doses of fennel seed extract. The extract seems to help with mood swings and feelings of depression by rebalancing hormones.
It’s been tested on a group of 36 PMT sufferers, 12 of whom took the extract three days before the start of their period and for three days afterwards, 12 who exercised, while the rest did neither. Those who exercised and took the extract both reported an improvement in their symptoms, although the most significant change was seen in the women taking the extract.
After taking the extract for two months, women said they were able to function better and PMT symptoms weren’t affecting their relationships or their ability to work and concentrate. Levels of depression also dropped, said researchers from Urmia University in Iran.
