Who’s afraid of holes? Pretty much everyone

Reading time: 1 minute

What scares you the most?  High places? Spiders? No, it’s holes.

Trypophobia—a fear of small holes clustered together in a pattern, such as in honeycombs, sunflowers, and fruit containing small seeds, such as strawberries and kiwis—is the most searched phobia.

Every month, more than 500,000 Americans carry out a web search for the phobia, according to QR Code Generator, which analyses web traffic.  They’re not alone.  Celebrities such as Kendall Jenner and Sarah Paulson have revealed they are also frightened of hole clusters.

Agoraphobia, a fear of crowds and open spaces, is the second most searched phobia, with around 363,000 Americans searching that every month, followed by misophonia, a fear of sounds such as chewing and heavy breathing, which attracts around 241,000 searches every month.
