The juice’s main ingredient is dietary nitrate, a molecule that increases muscle force while you’re exercising. This boosts your endurance levels and makes high-intensity workouts more effective.
Our bodies convert the nitrate into nitric oxide that feeds our cells, researchers at the University of Exeter explain.
They’ve traced the way the body metabolizes nitrate in a group of 10 volunteers, who did 60 quadricep contractions an hour after drinking the juice. Nitrates increased muscle force by 7 percent during the exercises.
