Following on from the pandemic, Allicin International were being regularly contacted by consumers who had used their allicin supplement as part of their recovery from Long Covid. Many users were enquiring about dosage, safety and length of time to take the supplement.

As far as safety was concerned, we were able to assure them that the supplement was safe to take long term and in multiple doses. However, we had no information on using it for Long Covid.

We decided to conduct a small trial with a simple questionnaire to be filled in by participants, to see if any factors could be determined. Participants were recruited from the UK and our overseas distributors in the United States and Hungary. In total, we had 52 volunteers who were provided with enough capsules to take five twice a day for a period of a month.

All participants completed a questionnaire on their symptoms and wellness score, before and after the supplements.

Long Covid is a debilitating condition and can cause pneumonia, respiratory issues and many other symptoms such as fatigue, muscle pain and cough. Allicin International Ltd designed a Cohort Study to record and assess whether a unique garlic (extract) supplement (Allimax® and Allicinmax®) could help alleviate the symptoms of Long Covid and improve the wellness of the study participants. The study was carried out in three countries – UK, USA and Hungary.

Most of the volunteers were taking a selection of vitamins and minerals of which Vitamin C and D were the most popular. Of the 52 volunteers who took part, 39 were female and 13 male. One third of the participants were aged between 56 and 65 years.

The results and analyses showed that 71% of volunteers recorded an increase in Wellness and 94% of volunteers recorded a decrease in Symptoms. This was successfully achieved by using a unique, good value, safe and readily available garlic (extract) food supplement.

WELLNESS

  1. 37 volunteers (71%) recorded an increase in Wellness.
  2. 13 volunteers (25%) recorded no increase in Wellness.
  3. 2 volunteers (4%) recorded a decrease in Wellness but a large decrease in Symptoms.
  4. The total Wellness scores improved by 92 (133%) or an average of 1.77 points per person.

SYMPTOMS

  1. 49 volunteers (94%) recorded a decrease in Symptoms.
  2. 3 volunteers (6%) recorded no decrease in Symptoms.
  3. The total number of Symptoms reduced by 180 (49%) or an average of 3.46 per person.

SUPPLEMENTS

  1. 26 volunteers (50%) reported that supplements helped them leading up to the start of the study.
  2. 19 volunteers (36.5%) reported they were not sure that supplements helped them before the start of the study
  3. 4 volunteers (7.7%) reported that supplements did not help them.
  4. 3 (5.8%) volunteers did not take any supplements

There was clear evidence from the three combined study territories that taking the unique garlic (extract) supplement at the suggested dose for a month contributed to a 71% increase in Wellness and a 94% decrease in Symptoms.

The results of the study showed a very positive outcome. A product that is not overly expensive, well tolerated, safe to use and suitable for vegetarians and vegans has clearly been shown to be a success. This has strongly encouraged us to consider a more in-depth trial.
