Want to improve your eyesight? Then start running

Reading time: 1 minute

Scientists already know that vision in other mammals improves when they are running, and so wanted to discover if the same is true for humans.

Researchers from the University of California at Santa Barbara tested the vision of 18 volunteers before, during and after a session on an exercise bike.

They discovered that changes to our vision takes on an inverted-U shape: improvements in sight were greatest during low-intensity exercise compared to rest and high-intensity periods. The researchers, led by Prof Tom Bullock, aren’t sure why vision improved most during low-intensity exercise as opposed to high-intensity, but they noted the changes were “profound”.
