It’s true-vitamin C really does reduce the length of the common cold, researchers have discovered this week.
Taking at least one gram of the vitamin every day reduces the average length of a cold by around 8 per cent in adults and by 18 per cent in children, although one study found it could halve its duration.
The vitamin seems to have the most beneficial impact in people who are under heavy physical stress when they develop a cold, say researchers from the Cochrane Review, who analysed five trials.
