Taking vitamin D supplements reduces your chances of Covid-19 infection—and if you’re unlucky enough to catch the virus, it also means you’re less likely to die from the disease.
Taking the supplements reduces your risk of infection by as much as 28 percent, and lowers the chances of dying from Covid by 33 percent, researchers from Johns Hopkins University have discovered.
It’s an essential nutrient to combat Covid. Half the populations in the northern hemispheres are deficient in vitamin D, and that’s also where rates of infection are higher.
But nobody had assessed the effectiveness of the vitamin as a preventative, the researchers say. They gave supplements to nearly 200,000 US army veterans and compared them to a similar number of controls who hadn’t been given the supplements.
