US President Joe Biden has ordered a ban on funding the Wuhan Institute of Virology, which is suspected of being the source of the Covid-19 virus.
The centre has failed to provide documents that demonstrate acceptable safety and security measures—and it is suspected that lax security allowed the manipulated virus to leak from the lab.
The Biden administration started a review of the facility last year and concluded it did not comply with federal regulations on safety levels.
The US’s National Institutes of Health stopped funding research at Wuhan in 2020, shortly after the pandemic started.
