The bad diet eaters die younger

Reading time: 1 minute

Want to live a long life?  Then don’t consume processed meats and drinks—they increase the risk of a premature death.

Regularly eating processed meats, such as sausages or ham, raises the risk of an early death by 13 percent, and drinking sugary drinks by 9 percent.

Researchers from Harvard University tracked the health and diets of 114,000 people for 30 years and discovered that those eating the most processed food diet were more likely to die during the study.  Those who consumed the most processed foods—up to seven servings a day—were the most likely to die prematurely compared to those who had the foods and drinks three times a day.

The main culprits were the ready-to-eat meats, but there was also a risk from dairy-based desserts, processed breakfast cereals and sweetened drinks.
