Antioxidants slow the ageing process, as we know—but researchers have now seen them in action.
They gave laboratory mice an antioxidant supplement, and saw how it significantly improved their spatial cognition, short-term memory, and muscle strength.
Antioxidants such as vitamins C and E combat cell damage that is at the heart of the ageing process, including cognitive decline.
But supplements can reverse the decline, say researchers from the Shibaura Institute of Technology.
Although antioxidants are in plant foods, such as kale, green tea, dark chocolate and blueberries, the researchers recommend taking a supplement.
