If you’re eating a healthy diet, stick with it. You’re more likely to live longer and you lower your chances of developing heart disease or cancer.
Researchers have identified four types of healthy diet—Healthy Index 2015, Alternate Mediterranean Diet, Healthful Plant-Based Diet Index and Alternate Healthy Eating Index—that all share the same key elements of whole grains, fruits, vegetables, nuts and legumes.
They all help you live longer, just as long as you stick to them, say researchers from Harvard T H Chan School of Public Health.
They analysed data from 75,230 women in the Nurses’ Health study and 44,085 men in the Health Professionals study, which had been collated over 36 years. Those who stuck to one of the four healthy diets were less likely to die prematurely or suffer from cardiovascular disease, cancer or respiratory problems.
