Stay younger longer by chewing on some willow bark

Reading time: 1 minute

Willow bark contains six compounds that have a direct effect on the body’s ageing processes, and the effect is up to five times greater than can be achieved by rapamycin and metformin, two drugs that are supposed to have anti-ageing properties.

The six compounds are safe to consume, and they offer other health benefits, too. The Ancient Greeks were more interested in its pain-relieving and fever-reducing abilities, for instance.

Researchers from Concordia University and the Quebec-based biotech company Idunn Technologies combed through 10,000 trials to discover plant extracts that could increase the lifespan of yeast, as, at the cellular level, it closely resembles the ageing processes in humans.

In all, they found six molecules that slow the ageing processes in yeast, and these were all found in willow bark.
