Prince Charles is a ‘snake-oil salesman’ claims alternative medicine professor

Reading time: 1 minute

Prince Charles has been described as a ‘snake-oil salesman’ for his support of alternative medicine. The accusation comes from Prof Edzard Ernst, who was the UK’s first ever professor of complementary medicine.
Prof Ernst, who recently stepped down from his role at Exeter University, also said that Charles’s support of what he calls ‘integrated medicine’ was “a big smokescreen to smuggle unproven or disproven treatment into the NHS (National Health Service)”.
Ernst said his early retirement from the position was the price to pay to keep the unit open. During his tenure, Ernst was a controversial figure who rarely had a good word to say about alternative medicine.
He had an earlier clash with Prince Charles when he was accused of breaching a confidentiality agreement over a report about alternative medicine in the NHS. The row led to his early retirement.
