It’s a painkiller that is a household name – and if it is in your home right now, it should be thrown out. It doesn’t work effectively and it’s dangerous, say researchers.
Codeine has been used as a painkiller for nearly 200 years – which is why it has never been tested to today’s safety requirements. Life-threatening effects have also been reported among adults, say researchers from the University of British Columbia in Canada.
It’s time to put codeine to rest, they say.
