Parents asked to report MMR side effects as part of new product info

Reading time: 1 minute

America’s CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) wants members of the public to contribute their experiences with the MMR and MMRV (which is also designed to protect against the herpes zoster, or shingles, virus) as part of a consultation process that will help shape the new information sheet that is handed out to parents beforehand.

The Advisory Commission on Childhood Vaccines, the US’s drug regulator, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and parent and healthcare providers are also being invited to contribute.

The information sheet will provide a concise, and intelligible, review of the vaccines’ benefits, their risks, the existence of the National Vaccine Injury Compensation scheme, and any other information that the CDC considers relevant.

Parents who wish to add their voice to the debate can go to the website, www.regulations.gov, and follow the instructions for submitting comments. Alternatively, they can write to Suzanne Johnson-DeLeon, National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Mailstop A-19, 1600 Clifton Road NE, Atlanta, Georgia 30329.

Whether posting on the website or writing to the CDC, always quote Docket No. CDC-2016-0094.

All submissions need to be with the CDC by December 18th.
