
The bill for drugs dropped by $165m in 2013 in the states that had implemented medical marijuana laws, and it could have fallen by $468m if all the states had done the same, researchers from the University of Georgia estimated.
People are turning to marijuana instead of prescription drugs to help treat a range of ailments from pain to sleeping disorders, the researchers discovered. Other conditions include anxiety and depression, glaucoma, nausea and seizures. “People are using marijuana as medicine and not just for recreational purposes,” said lead researcher Ashley Bradford.
