Media black-out after two babies die from routine vaccinations

Reading time: 1 minute

There’s been a news black-out over the deaths of two babies after they were given three routine vaccinations in Chiapas, Mexico. Thirteen other vaccinated babies remain in intensive care, and are fighting for their lives.

In all, 37 of the 52 babies vaccinated suffered an adverse reaction to the vaccinations, and required hospital attention. The two dead children were a 30-day-old girl and a 28-day-old boy. All the reactions happened within hours of the children being vaccinated.

The babies had been given the hepatitis B (HepB), BCG tuberculosis and rotavirus vaccinations. The Mexican government’s Social Security Institute has now stopped all vaccinations while they mount an enquiry.

Although the deaths have been widely reported in the Spanish-speaking media, there has been almost a total black-out in the English-speaking press. Reporting on the deaths, Mario Lamo-Jimenez said: “A recent outbreak of measles originating in Disneyland with no fatalities received world-wide media coverage, and calls for legislation (over) public vaccination policies.
“A vaccination incident in Mexico which resulted in two deaths, 37 hospitalizations and 13 babies fighting for their lives has not been reported to the community at large and is certainly not being reported in other countries, particularly the United States.

“Is this lack of media coverage because vaccines are promoted as ‘safe and effective’ and no one wants to tarnish that image?”
