Send in the llamas – their antibodies can counter the deadly effects of C.difficile, the germ that has killed hundreds of thousands of hospital patients around the world.
Llamas and camels produce a simple antibody that interferes with the toxins from C.difficile, a deadly germs that infects around 2 per cent of all hospital patients. Using the antibodies, researchers from the University of Calgary have been able to neutralize the germ’s toxins, bringing closer a remedy.
