We’re all worried about microplastics accumulating in our body—and now scientists have discovered a food group that could eliminate them.
Fermented foods such as kimchi can help the body flush out tiny plastic particles before they can build up in organs.
Researchers from the National Research Council of Science & Technology in South Korea discovered the kimchi-derived microbe clung tightly to nanoplastics.
Nanoplastics are small plastic particles measuring less than one-thousandth of a millimetre. They form when larger plastic materials—such as from packaging and cooking pots and pans—break down and can enter the body through food and drinking water.
