Heart problems? Eat oily fish twice a week

Eating oily fish a few times a week is good for your heart—especially if you already suffer from heart disease.

The omega-3 fatty acids in the fish reduce the chances of a heart attack or stroke by around 17 percent in people who are already at high risk, say researchers from McMaster University. But that’s only for those who eat at least two servings a week.

People who were at low risk for cardiovascular disease (CVD) saw modest benefits from eating fish. Strangely, the diet didn’t help people who weren’t suffering from heart disease, the researchers found when they took another look at several major studies that had tracked 192,000 people, which included around 52,000 heart disease patients.
