Nobody is getting the memo: heart disease is still the major killer in the US, and that’s down to poor diets and lifestyle choices.
Heart disease is killing more Americans than the combined deaths from cancers and accidents.
Every 34 seconds, an American dies from heart disease, which is responsible for around 2,500 deaths every day in the US, say researchers from the American Heart Association.
According to the association’s latest figures, which cover 2022, 941,652 Americans died from cardiovascular disease (CVD), an increase of around 10,000 on the previous year.
The death toll is unlikely to abate any time soon. Around 47 percent of Americans have high blood pressure, 72 percent are obese or overweight, and 57 percent have type 2 diabetes, a precursor of heart disease.
