Intermittent fasting is one of the best ways to lose weight. It helps restore the ‘good’ bacteria in the gut that reduce inflammation and break down food.
Researchers from Arizona State University put 41 obese people on an intermittent fast for eight weeks, which was made up of days of calorie-restriction and normal eating. By the end of the trial, they all had fewer gut problems and the population of good bacteria in their gut had increased.
On average, they lost more than 8 percent of their body weight, and belly fat had also reduced. “The gut bacteria influence how we store fat, balance glucose levels and respond to hormones that make us feel hungry or full,” said Karen Sweazea, one of the researchers.
