Don’t put it on your face—eat vitamin C for a glowing skin

Reading time: 1 minute

When it comes to healthy, glowing skin, you don’t need vitamin C enriched potions—just eat more of it every day.

Upping your daily intake of the vitamin results in healthier skin and even eating two kiwi fruit every day makes a big difference to how your skin looks and feels.

Researchers from the University of Otago in New Zealand have discovered that adding more of the vitamin to your diet feeds every layer of the skin, boosting collagen and encourages skin renewal.

They tested the good effects of the vitamin on a group of 24 healthy people who ate two kiwifruit every day for two months.  They had better collagen production, producing thicker skin, and the outer skin layer renewed more quickly.

Consuming the vitamin is far better than just applying it to the skin.  It dissolves easily in water, and the skin doesn’t absorb it easily.  However, skin cells are highly efficient at absorbing vitamin C from the blood, with uptake into the outer epidermal layer appearing to be a priority.

Aside from kiwifruit, vitamin C is also in fresh fruits and vegetables such as citrus, berries, capsicums and broccoli.
