Cyclist Lance Armstrong inspires new heat therapy to beat cancer

Reading time: 1 minute

The famous cyclist Lance Armstrong could be the inspiration for a new therapy to beat cancer. Scientists have studied his fight against the disease to develop a new approach – using extreme heat to kill cancer cells that have become resistant to chemotherapy.
Armstrong beat metastatic testicular cancer that had spread to his lungs and brain before winning the arduous Tour de France for a seventh record time.
Researchers believe that his cancer cells could not survive in the warmer areas of the body once they had moved on from the cooler environment of the testicles.
The scientists are heating other types of cancer cells to see if they also die off in extreme heat.
