Covid virus manufactured in Wuhan as a bioweapon

The Covid-19 virus was manufactured in the Wuhan laboratories as part of a bioweapons programme funded by the Chinese military, a new investigation has discovered.

Research into mutated bat viruses started around 2003 when the US’s National Institutes for Health began funding the programme, but research findings were kept secret from 2016 when Wuhan scientists engineered a strain that was extremely virulent and which attracted the interests of the Chinese military as a potential bioweapon, US intelligence believed.

Wuhan scientists were engaged in risky experiments on coronaviruses that they had collected from bat caves in southern China.  They were publishing their research until 2016 when they discovered a new type of coronavirus discovered in a mineshaft in Yunnan province where people had died from Sars-like symptoms, the Sunday Times Insight team has reported.

“Rather than warning the world, the Chinese authorities did not report the fatalities.  The viruses found there—now recognised as the only members of Covid-19’s immediate family known to have been in existence pre-pandemic—were transported to the Wuhan Institute and the work of its scientists became classified,” the reporters say.

The reporters say they had reviewed hundreds of documents and interviewed US State Department investigators.
