Covid vaccines could be increasing cancer rates

The Covid vaccines may increase the risk of cancer, a major new study has found.

Although the shots seem to increase the rates of cancer in general, the risk appears to be greatest for six cancers: thyroid, gastric, colorectal, lung, breast and prostate.

The cancers appear up to a year after vaccination, and the over-65s are more likely to be affected, say researchers from South Korea.

They assessed the risk after collecting data from 8.4 million Koreans who were monitored for two years up to 2023, and of the 2.9 million who had been vaccinated, 711,000 had received a booster jab.

Men were more likely to develop gastric and lung cancers, and women faced a higher risk of thyroid and colorectal cancers, while prostate cancer was most common among the over-75s.  Booster jabs increased the risk of gastric cancer by around 23 percent and more than doubled the risk for pancreatic cancer.
