Covid-19 vaccine increases heart problems in adolescents

Adolescents are at the greatest risk of heart problems after a mRNA Covid-19 vaccination.

Teenagers up to 19 years can suffer heart inflammation problems such as myocarditis or pericarditis after vaccination, and especially after a second jab.

Researchers from BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute in Canada tracked the health of around 390,000 young people aged from under 5 to 19 years after they had been given one and two doses of the mRNA vaccine.

The under-12s didn’t seem to suffer serious reactions to the vaccine, but heart problems were seen in teenagers.  Fewer than 1 percent suffered from heart inflammation after the second course, and in most cases the problem eased within seven days, the researchers said.

Although the risk is low, parents and doctors should be aware of the risk so that an informed decision can be made, and the risk can be properly evaluated.
