ChatGPT better than doctors at diagnosing

ChatGPT, the AI (artificial intelligence) bot, is better than doctors at diagnosing health conditions.

It outperformed a group of interns and physicians in processing medical data and demonstrating clinical reasoning.

In each of the three stages of diagnosis—triage, system review and physical exam—the bot achieved the highest marks when it was pitted against 21 physicians and 18 residents, researchers from the Beth Israel Deaconness Medical Centre found.

It fell down in reasoning—justifying its decisions—when it was often “just plain wrong”, the researchers noted.

But it’s a tool that can correctly diagnose if it’s given all the data, the researchers conclude, and, overall, AI demonstrates “better reasoning than people”.
