Oranges are good—but blood oranges are even better for your health, just as long as you keep them in a cool place.
The oranges are rich in anthocyanins, flavonoid chemicals that give dark fruit their colour and are good for heart health—and storing them in a cool environment of between 40 degrees F (4 degrees C) and 53 F (11 degrees C) boosts levels.
A cool environment is also essential for growing the fruit, says Ali Sarkhosh, a researcher from the University of Florida.
