Around $11 million has been paid out to 356 politicians and political groups in Congress, and more is expected to follow, says STAT, the medical research group.
It has focused on 23 of the biggest drug companies and their political action committees (PACs), which have made “a barrage” of contributions directly or through trade associations.
Pfizer – which stands to make $15bn from its Covid vaccine if it can pass the tests – has been the most active, cutting 548 checks, while Amgen and Merck have sent 405 and 379 checks respectively.
Congress has responded in kind, and has sanctioned billions of dollars to federal healthcare agencies that, in turn, are funding Covid vaccine research projects.
From now on, you won’t be able to buy WDDTY in a store, as we are reverting to a subscription-only magazine. The reason goes to the very heart of what this publication stands for. As a newsstand title, we were being censored in all sorts of subtle and not-so-subtle ways by a retail trade that chose never to support press freedoms. But we don’t want to stop you from getting vital information which is why we’ve curated this special subscription offer just for you. By subscribing you can still get direct access to all this information every month, via a subscription, as thousands of others do.
