B3 supplements reduce risk of skin cancer

Reading time: 1 minute

If you’ve ever had skin cancer—or you’re worried that you might—start supplementing with B3 (nicotinamide) vitamins.

It can reduce your risk of getting the cancer by 14 percent, and it also lessens your chances of the cancer recurring by 54 percent.

Although skin specialists have recommended the supplement for the past 10 years, their advice was based on a very small study.  Now researchers at Vanderbilt University Medical Center have reinforced the message with a large study that included more than 33,000 veterans.  Of these, 12,287 had taken 500 mg of the vitamin twice a day for 30 days, and skin cancers were lower in the group, and they were also less likely to see the cancer return.
