ADHD is seriously over diagnosed

ADHD (attention deficit, hyperactive disorder) could be dramatically over diagnosed, and many cases are instead another problem such as depression.

Medical researchers have been too quick to make an ADHD diagnosis without first ruling out other possible possibilities, and these mistakes have been made even in the most influential studies that have guided drug and treatment policies.

Researchers from the University of Copenhagen analysed 292 of the most significant studies into ADHD in adults and found that around half hadn’t carried out thorough diagnostic checks.  Half the studies included people who had other mental health issues and yet were still diagnosed with ADHD.

Most of the researchers weren’t qualified to make an accurate diagnosis and in one study the diagnosis was done by a computer.
