Aspirin is supposed to help prevent heart disease-but once you have the condition, the drug can be fatal. People who have high blood pressure (hypertension) and coronary artery disease increase their risk of dying by 47 per cent when they take aspirin or any other NSAIDs (non-steroidal, anti-inflammatory drugs).
NSAIDs also increase the risk of a non-fatal heart attack or debilitating stroke, researchers at the University of Florida, in Gainesville, have discovered (Am J Med, 2011; 124: 614-20).
