No, fizzy water won’t help you lose weight

Water isn’t going to help you lose weight—even if it is sparkling.

Health bloggers have pushed the idea that sparkling water can help us lose weight, but researchers say the change to our metabolism is so slight that it really doesn’t make any difference.

A BMJ research group tracked the effects of sparkling water on the way our body processes waste, a mechanism known as hemodialysis.  The effects were minimal, they found, and the water isn’t for everyone: those with sensitive stomachs can feel bloated or gassy after drinking it.
