Processed food can affect our fertility—and that’s true for both sexes.
It affects men’s sperm quality, and women on a processed food diet are more likely to have a smaller baby in the first trimester, which raises the chances of premature birth.
Couples find it harder to conceive if the man eats a lot of processed food, while women experience smaller embryo growth, researchers from the Erasmus University Medical Centre in Rotterdam discovered when they measured fertility levels in 831 women and 651 male partners.
Ultra-processed foods (UPFs) make up half the British diet, and more than 60 percent of the American diet.
