Babies and toddlers need their vitamin D tablets every day to help their neuro development, especially if they’re living in sun-starved countries in the northern hemisphere, a new research study has found.
But they don’t need high doses—standard amounts work just as well.
Researchers from the University of Tampere in Finland gave a group of 404 infants either 400 IUs vitamin D supplements or 1200 IUs from the time they were just two weeks old. But after two years there was hardly any difference in the developmental scores of either group, suggesting the higher dose didn’t help the toddlers advance any quicker.
