Secrecy surrounds safety trials on full-body airport scanners

The new full-body scanners at airports are as safe as eating a banana, says the manufacturer – and yet US authorities refuse to publish the full safety trials, or even reveal who the trial’s scientists were.
A group of scientists from the university of California is calling on the US government to ‘come clean’ and reveal the full safety trials. The lead author, John Sedat, a professor emeritus in biochemistry and biophysics, says: “There’s no real data on these machines, and in fact, the best guess dose is much, much higher than certainly what the public thinks.”
In their letter, the professors point out that:
o only a replica of the scanner has ever been tested
o the results of the safety trials have been so heavily edited that it is impossible to replicate them, and
o the names of the trial researchers have been excluded.
