Berries help ward off Alzheimer’s and dementia

Reading time: 1 minute

As we get older, we all worry about losing our memory – but there’s something you can do about it right now. Eating berries every day protects the brain, and may reduce the risk of dementia and Alzheimer’s, a new study has found this week.
All the berry fruits – including blueberries, blackberries and strawberries – have the same protective qualities. They contain high levels of antioxidants, which protect brain cells from the damaging activities of free radicals, and they change the way that neurons in the brain communicate.
Signalling changes prevent inflammation in the brain, thought to cause neuronal damage, leading to a loss of motor control and cognitive abilities.
