One in five doctor surgeries are dismissing families who refuse to vaccinate their children, a new survey has discovered.
Doctors across the US are dismissing the families, even though the action goes against guidelines set out by the American Academy of Pediatrics.
In a survey of 800 doctors, 168 or 21 per cent said they had dismissed families who had refused vaccination.
The majority were in the Southern states and in states that didn`t have a philosophical exemption.
Those that did allow philosophical exemption probably saw vaccine refusal as more of a reasonable view, say researchers from the University of Colorado School of Medicine, who carried out the survey.
